Exciting News for Kenwick School

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends

Kenwick School is now an Independent Public School

I am thrilled to announce that Kenwick School was announced by the Minister Sue Ellery as achieving Independent Public School (IPS) status; late last week.  Our school was one of 29 schools in the latest Independent Public Schools intake.

This success follows our involvement in the Department of Education’s IPS Development program this year. It culminated in a presentation our school Chair Ray Norvill and I made to the IPS Panel a couple of weeks ago.  As part of this process we able to demonstrate that, our school;

  1. Has the capacity to assume greater responsibility for its own affairs;
  2. Has significant level of Community Support; and
  3. Could articulate the potential benefits for students and broader community in becoming IPS.

This is a truly significant step forward for the school and would not have been possible without the support of School Council, staff, school community and of course our wonderful student cohort.  Becoming an Independent Public School provides an opportunity to build upon our existing school and community partnerships.

As comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery in the press release states;

“The Independent Public School program draws on the strong relationships schools have with their local communities and gives them the autonomy to make decisions that best suit their students, staff and families.”

I look forward to discuss the opportunities presented being an IPS school as we move forward.

In the meantime, I wish you a restful, safe and happy Term break, and remind you that the first day back for students next Term is Wednesday 22 July.

Yours Faithfully
Mark Watson
