Alternative to Employment

Learn Alternative Skills to Build Your Future

The Alternative to Employment Program (ATE) at Kenwick School is designed to cater for those High School students who will not be seeking employment when they leave school. This program concentrates on teaching students the skills needed to be as independent as possible both in their homes and in the community.

Students learn how to safely access the places in their local communities where they will be spending their leisure and recreation time when they leave school.

Staff and parents work closely together to plan long term goals for the students and to plan the transition to adult life for the student. Kenwick School also works closely with the Post School Options Service Providers who provide recreation programs for these students when they leave school.

The ATE Program also includes a sensory stimulation program and the TEACCH Program similar to those taught in the Primary School setting.
